As part of our continuing effort to provide the highest quality service, we are offering our Shaw High-Speed Internet customers a newsfeed through Shaw's own news server, which currently offers more than 50,000 newsgroups.

If you are currently subscribed to any newsgroups on the @Home news server, you will have to delete and recreate your news account to be able to access Shaw's news server.

For instructions on recreating your news account, select your newsreader from the following options:

1. Delete your current News Account

  • Open Outlook Express
  • Select Tools -> Accounts
  • The Internet Accounts window will appear
  • Select the News tab
  • Select your @Home news account
  • Click Remove
  • Click Yes to confirm
  • Click Close to close the Internet Accounts window

2. Recreate Your News Account

  • Select Tools -> Accounts ->News
  • Click the Add button and select News
  • Type your name and click Next
  • Type your email address and click Next
  • In the News (NNTP) server field type shawnews
  • Click Next
  • A confirmation window will appear
  • Click Finish
  • Close the Internet Accounts dialog box
  • You will be prompted to download the newsgroups from the server
  • Click OK

 

1. Delete your current News Account

  • Open Netscape Collabra
  • Select Edit -> Delete Newsgroup Server
  • Select OK to confirm the deletion

2. Recreate Your News Account

  • Select Edit -> Preferences
  • Select Newsgroup Servers from the Category list
  • Select Add on the right hand side of the Preferences dialogue box
  • Type shawnews in the Server: field of the Newsgroup Server Properties dialogue box
  • Click OK
  • Right-click on the news server listing and select Subscribe to Newsgroups from the context menu

After the groups have downloaded you will be able to browse and subscribe to the groups.
